You speak, I hear, but do we need words?

As I have watched "The New World" again lately it really made me think about language. What is language? Is it only what we speak or is there so much more to it?

What is special about the movie is that so much is said without talking.
As you know I had a lot of classes in university about intercultural communication. I learned how language is seen so differently in other cultures.
We in our western world sometime only express ourselves or think everything has to be expressed by words.
Sometimes I wonder if we sometimes talk things to the death just to make sense...

But anyways in other cultures, mostly those of the eastern hemisphere you talk a lot more by saying things in between the lines or by your body language.
For us this often is so hard to understand, we cannot grasp the said.

In the movie though they sometimes entirely speak with body language.

It just reminded me that there is so much more than words...

A Fresh Start

Carpe Diem - Then, when - NOW

Remember how I used to write a few thoughts every day during Christmas time? Today I feel like doing this again. This because I heard a great quote yesterday that I wanted to share. Also it feels like time is passing by again so fast. It is already February and everything seems to be happening so so fast. I just need to sit down right now with my coffee and sweet bread and write.

"Life isn't then, life isn't when?, life is this."

Sometimes it happens that we live in the past. Either because it was so great that we want to go back there or because we cannot let go of things which happen to us. But in the end, living in the past holds us back from a great future God has prepared for us.
Then again only looking into the future asking yourself when everything is going to be better, when all the great things are going to happen and when God will finally show you your life destiny isn't a good thing either. It keeps our eyes off things that happen now, things which are great and contribute to the great future which lies ahead of us. Here I want to refer you to a series of the exciting times of waiting I wrote a couple of years ago. To read it go here.
I really want us to refocus again. How are we living? What determines our life? What gives our life the drive? Are we really focused on Jesus and His plan for us?
We should live right now in this very moment even though we sometimes have to do things we don't understand or things which do not make sense to us or seem dull to us. God is preparing us now. All I can say and encourage you to is to be planted in the Church, be involved, help building His church and His kingdom here on earth and then step after step you will see how it all comes togehter how it will enfold right in front of your eyes.

Don't walk through life with your eyes closed, but with open eyes. See the people around you. Look at the situations, your attitude in it. See the beauty around and about you.

Live each day for Jesus, Yaweh.

Prison Break - out

"Inside this shell there's a prison cell"

Quoting from Switchfoot's song Free (from the album Hello Hurricane see above) I want to ask the following questions:

Where are areas in your life where you lock yourself up?
Where do you stay inside the shell?
Where are you afraid to be yourself, get yourself out there?

Let me encourage you to break out of the shell. Being quiet is not synonymous with being shy. Being loud does not mean being brisk.

God created you in His image. He made you wonderfully and He wanted you. Be, what he created you to be.

Read Psalm 139 again today. It talks about you!

The First Day

The year has slowly started. People have made New Year's pledges - maybe have already broken them. Either way, everybody expects something of this new year. Most people want it to be better than the last. Want to achieve something.
When you ask people for their life motto, or how they want to live their life, a lot of people might say, that they want to live each day as if it were the last of their life.
These days I read somebody raising the question why we don't want to live each day as if it were the first day of our lives.

I thought that was quite interesting and got me thinking. What would happen if we lived it like it was the first day of our lives?
Wouldn't we walk around, astonished and captivated by everything we see. Wouldn't we be fearless, not have a past? I guess we would not even have the chance to hurt people because we are so amazed by them. We would enjoy the day and see the beauty in everything. Just thinking about how it is when you first become a Christian? You would probably run around and tell everybody the good news. The great thing, that you got saved. You would be full of joy, knowing that you were forgiven and made righteous.

I am raising the question today. How would you live your day, if it was the first day of your life?
